5. AN EPITAPH ( Walter De La Mare 1873 – 1956)

The poem “An Epitaph” has been written by Walter De La Mare who is a famous poet of England. He is awarded by ‘order of merit’ in 1953 by queen Elizabeth ll. He is highly impressed by her but she dies soon. The poet becomes upset because of her untimely death. He says that she was a very beautiful lady who lived for her country men. She was a selfishless and kind hearted lady who did much for the people of England. She loved her country and country men much. He says that she was a great lady. In the last two lines of the poem he expresses his sorrow and says that if he dies, nobody will remember the lady of England (west country) because he knows the lady very well. He says that she was a lady by birth but by work she was not in the list of ladies. This is a very short poem but the meaning of it is very depth.
