The poem “My Grandmother’s House” has been written by Kamala Das who is a famous Indian poetess. She wrote many poems in Malayalam language and some poems in English. She mainly writes poems on the theme of sex and lust but the present poem is free form sex and lust. It is one of her best poems in English. In this poem she has highlighted her childhood with her grandmother when they used to live together in a small village of South India. After the death of her grand mother all her members of family come to another place to leave Grandmother’s house. The poetess has grown old but she is unable to forget the memory of her grand mother and she wants to go to the village because the house reminds her childhood and grandmother’s love but the members of her family do not allow her to go there because the house of the village has become very old and it may fall down on someone. The poetess herself feels as a stranger in her house because she is not getting true love towards her family. She is not happy because of change time. It is a nice poem.
